Hawkgirl00

Due to her wingspan, Hawkgirl is one of the larger busts in the early days of the Women of the DC Universe bust series. She’s also one of the best executed pieces, from the sculpting details on her wings to the paint application on her face and costume. This is the only Hawkgirl piece they’ve released in this series so far, but I fully expect to see a New 52 version wearing the face mask coming in the future.

BigBarda00

This post is going up after midnight, but I’m re-dating it for June 29 so as to keep my Project 365 string going. I had all the photos ready to post but suddenly ran into a WordPress error that prevented any images from uploading. Because of that, today’s post got shoved late, but I’m counting it as still valid for the Project 365 posts since it was a problem that had nothing to do with my keeping to the photo-taking schedule. In any case, today’s collectible is Big Barda from the Women of the DC Universe line, and this one is another designed by Adam Hughes.

PowerGirl00

This Power Girl was the first version of the character released in the Women of the DC Universe bust series and is designed by Adam Hughes. Adam does fantastic Power Girl art, and he did a great job putting this piece together, but the later Power Girl designed by Amanda Conner ended up looking better overall. The only real issue with this bust is that the paint work is a little strange. Her skintone is a bit too orange, and the detailing on her face is not quite up to par. As the Women of DC line progressed, the final production pieces have become better and more detailed, so it’s been a natural progression with some otherwise awesome collectibles having little griping points like the paint on this one.

DonnaTroy00

I’m back to working my way through the rest of my DC bust collection, and today’s photos are of the Donna Troy bust designed by Adam Hughes. This is the only Donna Troy they’ve made in this series so far, and while the bust design and execution look good, the physics of it are pretty terrible. She’s top-heavy and tends to lean to the front, which wouldn’t be a problem if DC Direct had made her base a little bigger and heavier. As it is, the base is tiny, making it very easy for her to tip over. I definitely am careful anytime I need to open the display case where I have her.

TwilightWitchKing00

This Twilight Ringwraith was the final piece (so far, and probably ever) in the Lord of the Rings animated statue series Gentle Giant produced. I really love all of their animated-style collectibles, and I wish they would add a few more characters into this one. The Twilight Ringwraith is a very cool statue, but it’s always struck me as odd that they made him before making Aragorn, Arwen, or any of the Hobbits.

Palpatine00

I’m gradually making my way through this Project 365. Getting all these photos taken and posted every day for a year is more grueling than you might imagine, so every once in a while I’m falling back on pictures I took a long time ago but haven’t posted yet. That’s what’s going on today as I take a break from the DC busts I’ve been posting and show off an older one, the Emperor Palpatine animated statue from Gentle Giant’s Star Wars series.

Supergirl00

Continuing my posting of early busts in the Women of the DC Universe series, here is their first Supergirl, designed by Adam Hughes. To date there have been four Supergirl busts in the series, and I really like that DC went with a different look, take, or version of the character for each one. I already have posted the Amanda Conner version, the Dodson version, and the New 52, so this Hughes one rounds out that collection (until they make another one).

HarleyQuinn00

After posting the early Catwoman and Poison Ivy busts from the Women of the DC Universe series over the past couple of days, I’m rounding out the Gotham trio with Harley Quinn today. Yes, I have a million Harley Quinns. This probably was my first one, though, as she was the earliest Harley released in DC Direct’s collectibles line, when all the pieces were designed by or based on Adam Hughes’ art.

PoisonIvy00

Following up on the Catwoman bust from yesterday, here’s the Poison Ivy bust from the first series of Women of the DC Universe, also designed by Adam Hughes. Back in these first few series of the bust collection, the pieces were slightly smaller in scale than the DC Comics Superheroes series that is currently running (and that basically is just a continuation of the same series). This Poison Ivy is in scale with the rest of the busts in the line but looks significantly smaller because of the variation in those earlier busts and because of her compact pose.

Catwoman00

I have a huge backlog of collectibles that I got a long time ago but never got around to photographing properly. While I’m in between getting new stuff I’m delving back into the archives to take new pictures of these older pieces. Tonight I went on a spree with the first series of Women of the DC Universe busts from DC Direct. All of these were designed by Adam Hughes, and some of them are pretty hard to find these days. I’ll be posting those photos throughout the weekend and coming week, most likely, so brace yourself for a flood of DC superheroines and villains, starting with this Catwoman.
