VentressDooku00

Today I’m featuring another Star Wars statue from Gentle Giant, this time taking an animated character and turning her realistic. Asajj Ventress is one of the antagonists in the Clone Wars cartoons, and here she’s draped on her Sith master, Count Dooku, lightsabers at the ready. This is a really cool full-size statue that I picked up as a one-off, as I don’t generally collect the full-size non-animated style Star Wars pieces from Gentle Giant.

SilverSurfer00

I previously posted photos of my Bowen Designs Galactus Scale Silver Surfer statue, and now here’s a full-scale Silver Surfer from Bowen. They’ve done a few different full size statues of him, and this is the one that came out in 2008. I really love photographing Silver Surfer pieces. I don’t know whether it’s the chrome look or what, but he’s always ridiculously fun to light and shoot.

HarleyQuinn00

You can probably tell by now that I have a ton of Harley Quinn collectibles. Well, guess what. Here’s another! This one is from the third series of Women of the DC Universe busts made by DC Direct, and she was limited to 5000 pieces. Celeste has been showing me a bunch of toy photography tutorials and awesome toy photos online lately, and I decided to experiment a little with the backgrounds on this set.

SavageOpress00

I’ve mentioned previously that I’m a huge Star Wars fan but am woefully behind on the Clone Wars cartoon. Sadly, that’s still the case, but I’m determined to catch myself up on all of that before Episode 7 comes out in a couple of years. Still, I’m a completist and big fan of Gentle Giant’s line of Star Wars animated style maquettes, so I’ve added several Clone Wars characters into that collection, even though I haven’t encountered them yet in my viewing. Savage Opress is one such character, and he’s the newest one released, joining our merry living room display just this week.

Batwoman00

Today was Father’s Day, and Celeste and I went with my mom and dad to Ormond Beach to spend the day with Celeste’s parents and extended family. As such, I didn’t have enough time at home to take new photos, even though I do have a new collectible to photograph. Instead of that one, here are some old pics of the Batwoman bust from DC Direct’s Women of the DC Universe series.

Daenerys00

Not long ago I posted photos of the Daenerys Targaryen bust released by Valyrian Resin as part of their A Song of Ice and Fire series. These collectibles came along before HBO picked up Game of Thrones, so the likenesses are based on the characters’ descriptions from the books and not on the TV show’s actors. They released two versions of each of the three busts they made, and this is the variant Daenerys. She has a different headpiece and features a different paint scheme from the standard edition.

Sauron00

I don’t have a ton of Lord of the Rings collectibles, compared to the number of pieces I have from other franchises and media I enjoy (Star Wars, Marvel, DC, etc). The pieces I do have fall squarely into two occasionally overlapping categories: animated maquettes and bad guy busts. I really like the villains’ designs in the LOTR movies, so I’ve made it a point to collect a few items from that corner of fantasy. This is the Sauron bust Gentle Giant released a while back as part of their Ringbearer series. The series is called “Ringbearer” because each of the busts in the line has a hidden drawer just the right size for holding a ring. I haven’t found a practical use for the drawer in this Sauron bust just yet, but it’s kind of a neat feature.

IronMan00

Here are some photos of another Classic Marvel Figurine Collection entry from Eaglemoss’s long-lived series, the Iron Man Movie Edition. This Iron Man Mark 1 figurine came out around the time the first Iron Man movie was in theaters and was an early deluxe-scale entry in the line.

Lili00

The newest character in Kotobukiya’s Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Bishoujo series is Lili, just released this week. She comes with the standard clear disc display base that the other Tekken figures in this line have. You can pull the bottom off the base to insert one of three translucent plastic sheets to decorate the base. One just has the Tekken logo, one has the concept art for the figure, and one has the statue designer’s signature.

Dawn00

A long time ago, McFarlane Toys had the license to make Dawn collectibles based on Joseph Michael Linsner’s art. I think this Dawn action figure was the only Linsner piece they released, but it’s a really nice one. The armor is inspired by a specific outfit from Linsner’s art, and she came with a cool display base that had a plant erupting from a modern street.
