Sentry00

This guy is Marvel Comics’ Sentry, and he’s another miniature from the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection by Eaglemoss. Creators Paul Jenkins and Rick Veitch introduced the Sentry into comics in 2000 as the very first superhero of the Marvel Universe. I can’t remember all the details, but the gist was that something had happened to make all the rest of the Marvel folks forget about him until he reemerged in what really was his first storyline.

Raven00

A while back I posted photos of the DC Cover Girls Raven statue, and today I took pictures of the bust of Raven that came out prior to that statue. This one was another piece in the third series of Women of the DC Universe, designed by Amanda Conner. She comes with the “T” bust to match her Teen Titans teammate Wonder Girl, from that same bust series, and she’s limited to 3000 pieces (mine is #255).

ZoomTest03

The camera I use for all of my collectibles and toy photography is a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I absolutely love it for getting great, crisp, and vibrant shots in controlled settings where I can manage the lighting, have a tripod, and otherwise am able to create an ideal studio environment. It’s a little bulky to carry around, though, and I never have managed to master the art of getting good photos with it in impromptu circumstances like at conventions and other events. I do plan to figure all that out someday, but I’ve been wanting to get a smaller point-and-shoot camera that I could easily carry around and use on the go.

Not long ago Celeste’s mom gifted pedometers to Celeste and me. I’ve been super busy and hadn’t had made the time to try it out yet, although I have been wanting to start walking and / or running. Dragon Con is just around the corner, and all year I’ve been telling myself I’d get my endurance into better shape before we went so that I could handle all the walking and physicality of the convention without getting tired out. Procrastination and general physical laziness (and Animal Crossing) kept me from doing anything about it, and it took the dumbest thing in the world to get me motivated.

Batgirl00

Coming from the third series of Women of DC busts and designed by comic artist Amanda Conner, here’s another awesome Batgirl bust! Once again, they went with Barbara Gordon, and once again it’s a really cool collectible. I’d like to see some of the other Batgirls get their own collectibles, but the Babs ones they’ve put out all have been fantastic, so I can’t complain. This one is limited to 5000 pieces (mine is #2085) and captures Batgirl in the middle of her famous dance number in the Jack Rabbit Slims dance contest.

Hippolyta00

You’d be forgiven for thinking this was another Wonder Woman bust, but it’s actually Hippolyta. She’s Wonder Woman’s mom, so your guess would be close. My theory is that DC Direct wanted to make another Wonder Woman bust but realized they already had a ton of them in this collectible line, leading to the production of this one, which very clearly is not Wonder Woman (but might as well be).

Eddard00

I previously posted photos of the Daenerys variant bust from Valyrian Resin’s A Song of Ice and Fire collectibles series, and now here is the variant version of Eddard Stark. These busts came out long before HBO made their adaptation of Game of Thrones, so these are based on the character descriptions from the books and not on the actors’ likenesses. The standard version of this bust came with Ned holding his sword, and the variant has him holding the Hand of the King insignia on a chain.

Bizarro00

Bizarro is one of the early characters featured in the Villains of the DC Universe bust series, and they did a really good job with him. He’s limited to 1500 pieces worldwide (mine is number 896), and he comes on a square base that replicates the alternate Earth that is his home. In the comics, Bizarro sometimes is portrayed as goofy and sometimes as menacing, and this piece does a good job of striking a balance with a really neat representation of the character.

Etrigan00

The Etrigan bust from the Heroes of the DC Universe series is a really cool one that has one of the most elaborate bases in the line. It features translucent “flames” around the faux stone square, with Etrigan’s chant engraved around the sides. Remember when every superhero and villain had a silly rhyming phrase associated with them? Those were the days.

Crystal00

The Classic Marvel Figurines from Eaglemoss are very cool little collectibles, but they look a lot better displayed en masse, as opposed to being seen up close with the sorts of photos I’m taking for this Project 365 thing. As such, I’m trying to stagger these miniatures out a bit, placing them between blocks of more detailed and more interesting individual pieces. Today’s figurine is Crystal from Marvel’s Inhumans. Marvel Studios really, really needs to make an Inhumans movie. I actually am kind of stunned that they’re doing Guardians of the Galaxy before Inhumans.
