We’ve lived in our house for three years now (as of June 28), and we still haven’t managed to unpack and organize everything. We finally got sick of looking at clutter and boxes all over the place, and we’ve started working on doing something about it. We recently made a plan to unclutter and / or organize a specific section of the house as a project for at least 15 minutes a day, and we’ve done a good job of sticking to it so far. We’re already seeing some good results, and I thought it might help with my motivation if I occasionally posted project updates here.

Warehouse0

Celeste and I have lived in Clermont for the past few years, and it’s pretty awesome over here in the relatively rural part of central Florida. My parents liked the non-urbanness of it and have been wanting to move to this area for a while, too, and last month they finally found some property they like. They bought it, and in the middle of the land is a big warehouse that apparently used to belong to a cabinet company. The original plan was to build a house from the ground up, but now they’ve decided instead to remodel the warehouse and build the house inside it.

Lizard00

I expected to take a week-long break from my Project 365 while we were away at Dragon Con. What I didn’t expect was to catch a cold on the bus ride home that would linger with me for an additional week. Between being sick and trying to catch up on work I missed while I was away, I completely fell off the wagon and botched this whole thing where I was going to take photos of a different collectible every day for a year. I got pretty far into the project before the wheels fell off, so I hate just giving up on it, so how about if I set a new and slightly more manageable goal? I’m not going to be posting photos of a new collectible every day. Rather, I’ll take pictures of every new piece I get as I get it, and then I’ll put up photos of stuff I already have as I get time in between. Deal? Deal.

So that this post isn’t just me making excuses for wussing out on my Project 365, here are some pictures of a tiny lizard that picked the lock and broke into our house (or, you know, just jumped inside when I opened the front door this morning). The finger in the third photo is mine, and it’s there just for scale. The lizard didn’t bite it off and run away with it or anything.

RunProgress

At the end of July I decided to get in better shape by making myself get out and run. I was in pretty blah shape, so the initial stages of that were mostly walking and staggering, but I made myself do it. After consulting you folks, I ended up finding the Runtastic app and linking it between my phone and their website. Since then I’ve been doing a good job of keeping up with my runs / walks. I’ve been going out no less than once every other day, but I really try to do it every single day.

ZoomTest03

The camera I use for all of my collectibles and toy photography is a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. I absolutely love it for getting great, crisp, and vibrant shots in controlled settings where I can manage the lighting, have a tripod, and otherwise am able to create an ideal studio environment. It’s a little bulky to carry around, though, and I never have managed to master the art of getting good photos with it in impromptu circumstances like at conventions and other events. I do plan to figure all that out someday, but I’ve been wanting to get a smaller point-and-shoot camera that I could easily carry around and use on the go.

Not long ago Celeste’s mom gifted pedometers to Celeste and me. I’ve been super busy and hadn’t had made the time to try it out yet, although I have been wanting to start walking and / or running. Dragon Con is just around the corner, and all year I’ve been telling myself I’d get my endurance into better shape before we went so that I could handle all the walking and physicality of the convention without getting tired out. Procrastination and general physical laziness (and Animal Crossing) kept me from doing anything about it, and it took the dumbest thing in the world to get me motivated.

Computer00

Last year the power supply in my computer suddenly died. I’d built that computer about four years earlier and hadn’t done any appreciable upgrades since then, so it was starting to show its age. Still, the sudden loss of a power supply isn’t good, especially when the bulk of my day is spent working online. I had to pick up a new PSU right away, so I had to settle for whatever the local computer shop had. As it turned out, what they had was a super-loud 460W supply that barely could power all my components. Since then I’ve been wanting to put a new system together, and I finally took the plunge this week.

Last night I tweeted that we were looking through my Woodward yearbooks and I had forgotten that Kenan Thompson had a mean flat-top in eighth grade. Several people requested something along the lines of “pics or it didn’t happen,” so here you go. Kenan Thompson’s eighth grade yearbook photo. While I don’t have Kenan’s permission to post this, he was a super nice kid, and I kind of think he’d be okay with it. If he tells me otherwise, I will take it down.

At last, I clamber up from the depths, undead-like! Pale and dessicated, I shamble onward into a land that has become foreign in my time among the dead. It is I, survivor of that most vile of afflictions… food poisoning!

Thursday was sayonara to my car, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t get a little emotional about it. The actual sequence of events leading up to my final glimpse of the old Grand Am are actually kind of amusing, though, so that’s the story I’ve decided to relay to you.
