Superman00

Superman is the prime example of the teched-out costume look that most of DC’s heroes got after the New 52 reboot. Jim Lee did most or all of the redesigns, so I can only assume he has a thing for banded armor. Still, the look is sort of an alien one and works for Superman. This piece is my favorite Superman bust DC has put out, and it definitely outshines their earlier classic Superman one, which has Superman breaking through chains a la the cover to Superman #233 (and which I will photo and post in the future). One strange thing about this bust, however, is the incongruity between the “S” symbol logos. All the New 52 characters have similarly designed bases, with their character-specific logos on the bottom front. Superman’s “S” was redesigned for the relaunch with the new look that’s on his chest here. However, the “S” on the base is the classic logo, kind of strange since all the previous DC assets are supposed to have been overwritten by the new stuff.
