It’s the end of another year, and being the entertainment geek that I am, I always like to look back in December at all the media I’ve consumed over the course of the past twelve months. This year I didn’t go to the theater nearly as much as I did in 2010, and I watched more movies on Netflix and on DVD or Blu-ray than I did last year. That’s either a sign of the financial times or of my ever encroaching propensity toward being a hermit. Whatever the reason, here’s the rundown of all the movies I saw throughout 2011, in order of viewing.

That’s a grand total of 47 movies for the year. I’m setting a goal of 52 for 2012, to average one movie a week. Some of the movies I saw in 2011 were very good, but more than a few were complete stinkers. A lot of the movies I watch arrive by way of review copies for Fandomania, and we really do get some bad ones. I’ve added asterisks next to my ten favorite movies I saw this year, but my overall favorite was far and away Sucker Punch. I know it was one of the most critically and popularly reviled movies of the year, but this critic thinks it was pretty great. I won’t go into all the reasons here, but if you’re interested you can hear our discussion about it on our year end wrap-up podcast episode. Memento would have an asterisk because it’s one of my all-time favorite movies, but my 2011 viewing was a rewatch, so I gave its “favorite” spot to a different film.
