A long while back I posted photos of the Supergirl bust based on Amanda Conner’s designs, and today’s collectible is from the same series but based on what has come to be something of a signature character for her, Power Girl! Power Girl is a character that would be very easy to marginalize with her ultra cheesecakey costume design and overall silliness, but Conner has done some really great stuff to make her relevant in DC and in comics in general. Sometime I’ll post pictures of the other Women of DC Power Girl bust that was designed by Adam Hughes, but this Amanda Conner one handily trumps his.

Back in September I posted about the Supergirl bust from DC Direct, designed by comic artist Amanda Conner. Last week the next piece in that same line released, this time featuring Zatanna. Much like Supergirl, this isn’t the first time Zatanna has been included in the Women of DC collection. The first time was several years ago when Adam Hughes designed a bust for the very first series. I’ll get around to taking better pictures of that one eventually, but I do have one shot in my Flickr gallery of that original bust. I definitely think the new Conner bust trumps the Hughes one, even if I do love the goofy pose and expression Zatanna has in that original. The new one is a lot more dynamic, and I really love everything about the base, from the curling book pages to the gargoyles in back to the translucent spell fire at the point where Zatanna is coming out of the tome. I’ve been working on setting up my office in the new house, and I turned a corner of it into a mini-photography studio over the past week. The goal is for me to have a convenient place where I can take more pictures of all the crazy stuff I collect. I’m going to try to do photos of everything I add into my collection from this point forward, and I’ll also go back and try to catch up on some of the older stuff I haven’t previously taken pictures of. It’s starting this week with the new Supergirl bust from DC Direct’s Women of the DC Universe series. The current line is designed by comics artist Amanda Conner.
