ObiWanKenobi00

This Obi-Wan Kenobi is part of Gentle Giant’s Star Wars animated statue series. I’ve posted a lot of their pieces in this style here already, and the Star Wars line is one I regret getting into late. I have all of the classic trilogy releases, as well as most of the Prequel and Clone Wars statues, but I missed out on a few key Clone Wars / Prequel characters that came out at the very start of the line. Some of those (Padme Amidala in particular) have become prohibitively expensive on the secondary market, so it’s likely that this will be a collectible series I don’t complete, barring a lottery win.

Willow00

This is another in Electric Tiki’s fantastic line of Buffy the Vampire Slayer animated statues. Most of the pieces in this line came out alongside variant versions, and I already have posted the Dark Willow variant of this one. Here’s the standard Willow, dressed in her outfit from the famous “bag of knives” scene from the “Tough Love” episode. The base has translucent pink resin that looks really cool when light shines through it. It sounds like Electric Tiki doesn’t have current plans to make more of the Buffy statues after the ones they’ve already produced, but I really hope they eventually do go back to the license for more.

This Twilight Ringwraith was the final piece (so far, and probably ever) in the Lord of the Rings animated statue series Gentle Giant produced. I really love all of their animated-style collectibles, and I wish they would add a few more characters into this one. The Twilight Ringwraith is a very cool statue, but it’s always struck me as odd that they made him before making Aragorn, Arwen, or any of the Hobbits.

Palpatine00

I’m gradually making my way through this Project 365. Getting all these photos taken and posted every day for a year is more grueling than you might imagine, so every once in a while I’m falling back on pictures I took a long time ago but haven’t posted yet. That’s what’s going on today as I take a break from the DC busts I’ve been posting and show off an older one, the Emperor Palpatine animated statue from Gentle Giant’s Star Wars series.

SavageOpress00

I’ve mentioned previously that I’m a huge Star Wars fan but am woefully behind on the Clone Wars cartoon. Sadly, that’s still the case, but I’m determined to catch myself up on all of that before Episode 7 comes out in a couple of years. Still, I’m a completist and big fan of Gentle Giant’s line of Star Wars animated style maquettes, so I’ve added several Clone Wars characters into that collection, even though I haven’t encountered them yet in my viewing. Savage Opress is one such character, and he’s the newest one released, joining our merry living room display just this week.

Buffy00

Electric Tiki created two versions of Buffy Summers in their Buffy the Vampire Slayer Tooned Up TV Maquettes series. This is the “Once More With Feeling” version, featuring Buffy in the outfit she wore in the musical episode of the TV show. She has interchangeable hands so that you can display her with different weapon props. The second Buffy is a Season 7 version, and I’ll post photos of her later.

Jason00

This is kind of a weird one. After having successful animated statue lines based on Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and some other properties, Gentle Giant looked to New Line’s horror franchises for inspiration. They released cartoony statues from both Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, and this is their Jason Voorhees animaquette. He’s in scale with the other statues in this style, and there are a lot of neat details worked into the piece. He’s stomping on a Camp Crystal Lake sign, and his overall look is creepy and goofy at the same time. The victim slung over his shoulder is a bit morbid, but this is Jason Voorhees we’re talking about.

DarkWillow00

Earlier this month I posted photos of the Glory Tooned Up Maquette from Electric Tiki’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer line, and today I’m posting Dark Willow from that same line. Electric Tiki made two versions of Willow, and this was the variant one. I’ll put up shots of the regular edition later. I really like this whole line of animated style statues, and they look great displayed together. As I said in the Glory post, I still hold out hope for more additions to the lineup, but it’s been quite a while since a new one has come out.

R2-D200

After posting about my Darth Talon bust yesterday, it wasn’t my intent to follow up with another Star Wars collectible today. As luck would have it, though, the new R2-D2 maquette from The Clone Wars arrived, and I felt compelled to take pictures of this little guy right away. The animated-style Star Wars statues are some of my favorite collectibles, and we even have a whole display wall devoted to them in our living room. R2-D2 has appeared in the line before, as part of the Princess Leia and Yoda pieces, but this is the first Artoo standalone maquette Gentle Giant has made for this series. The Clone Wars version of R2-D2 is more weathered than the other versions, most likely due to all the warring he’s been doing with clones. He also has a more limited run than most other statues in the series, clocking in at just 1000 numbered pieces.
