HarleyQuinn00

I’ve posted a lot of Harley Quinn statues and busts here, but this was my very first one. She’s part of the earliest series of Cover Girls of DC statues, based on the art of Adam Hughes, and while the busts have put Harley in her classic costume over and over, this is the only statue in this particular line that has her in the traditional red and black outfit.

Platinum00

The newest release in the Cover Girls of DC statue series is Platinum from the Metal Men. It’s always fun photographing silver-colored or chrome collectibles like the Silver Surfer statues I own and this one. Platinum’s design is pretty similar to that of the Engineer from The Authority, which in turn probably borrows something from Maria in the sci-fi classic Metropolis.

WonderWoman00

Today’s statue is the very first piece from DC Direct’s Cover Girls of DC series, from back in 2009. This Wonder Woman was based on the art of Adam Hughes and is limited to 5000 pieces worldwide. She has a lasso made of inflexible wire, and her circular base would set the standard for all the heroine and villainess statues DC released from that point through the beginning of the New 52 series.

PoisonIvy00

This Poison Ivy statue is the predecessor to the New 52 Ivy I posted previously. This one was in the first series of Cover Girls of DC collectibles that released and is based on the art of Adam Hughes, like a lot of the other Marvel and DC pieces I have in my collection. Ivy is limited to 7000 pieces and comes with a shovel accessory that attaches onto the base with a pin and socket.

Raven00

I’ve been working my way chronologically backwards through the releases in the DC Comics Cover Girls series, in order to get caught up on all the statues I own but haven’t yet photographed. This is the next one, the Raven statue featuring the character with her New 52 look. Raven came out in 2012 and, thanks to her levitating on a translucent base and unfurling her giant cloak, is one of the largest pieces in the series to date. The base and figure come in the box as two separate pieces, and Raven’s foot attaches to the base with a metal pin.

BlackCanary00

I didn’t have time to take new photos today, so I’m posting some old pictures that I haven’t featured here before. This one is the Black Canary statue from the Cover Girls of DC series. She’s based on cover art by Adam Hughes and came out several years ago when DC’s collectibles division was still branded as DC Direct.

WonderWoman00

Time for another DC Comics Cover Girls statue! This one is one of the most dynamic they’ve released and is a really great portrayal of Wonder Woman in her most recent costume. The base is a swirling cloud mass, and I think it would look a little better if parts of it were translucent (where it connects to her raised foot, for example). Overall I really like this piece, though. The statue itself is resin, but Wonder Woman’s lasso is made from a sturdy gauge wire, which both looks better and is far less fragile than making it out of resin as well.

Catwoman00

Today I’m featuring another statue in the DC Comics Cover Girls series, Catwoman! There was a previous Catwoman piece in this line back in the first year or two of it, and I’ll probably post pictures of that one here as well. This is the New 52 Catwoman that released more recently, and I really like the way the redesign translated to the sculpture, from the shorter hair to the kitty backpack stuffed with jewels to the leaping cat on the base.

Harley00

Today’s statue is a pretty controversial one for a few reasons. First and foremost is that it’s the first collectible released featuring Harley Quinn in her post-New 52 costume. Many Quinn fans absolutely loathe her new look in the current DC comics, so this statue hits a sore spot for them. Adding insult to injury is the base of the statue, which blatantly has Harley taking a sledgehammer to her old, classic costume before stomping on it. I’m not especially attached to any one look for Harley Quinn, but I like her overall as a character, so I’ve been okay with the makeovers she’s gotten in the comics and in the video games. I still have a few additional Harley Quinn collectibles that I haven’t posted here yet, so they’ll probably show up at some point during this year.

PoisonIvy00

DC has had an ongoing series of statues for several years now called the Cover Girls of the DC Universe line, and it has featured quite a few heroines and villainesses in great sculpts, all in scale with each other. When the DC reboot happened, the statue series continued but for some reason changed its name to the almost-the-same-but-not-quite “DC Comics Cover Girls.” I have quite a few of these pieces in my collection, but so far the only one I’ve posted on this blog has been the Arkham City Harley Quinn, which, while she’s in the same scale and displays well with the rest, isn’t technically part of the Cover Girls series. This newest addition to the lineup is Poison Ivy, sporting her new and less revealing costume from the New 52 reboot of Birds of Prey.
