SandorClegane00

I previously posted the Eddard and Daenerys busts from Valyrian Resin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Here’s the standard version of Sandor Clegane, which comes without the trademark Hound helmet and with Sandor’s burned face exposed. I really like this line because, as I said before, it came out before the HBO Game of Thrones series, so the character designs are based on the book descriptions and not on the actor likenesses. The level of detail really is impressive on this one, from the intricate chainmail links to the blood and mud spattered on the armor.

Eddard00

I previously posted photos of the Daenerys variant bust from Valyrian Resin’s A Song of Ice and Fire collectibles series, and now here is the variant version of Eddard Stark. These busts came out long before HBO made their adaptation of Game of Thrones, so these are based on the character descriptions from the books and not on the actors’ likenesses. The standard version of this bust came with Ned holding his sword, and the variant has him holding the Hand of the King insignia on a chain.

Daenerys00

Not long ago I posted photos of the Daenerys Targaryen bust released by Valyrian Resin as part of their A Song of Ice and Fire series. These collectibles came along before HBO picked up Game of Thrones, so the likenesses are based on the characters’ descriptions from the books and not on the TV show’s actors. They released two versions of each of the three busts they made, and this is the variant Daenerys. She has a different headpiece and features a different paint scheme from the standard edition.

Daenerys00

Back in my day, we didn’t know nothin’ about no HBO, and our throne games came on paper. Emilia Clarke was, like, three minutes old, and she sure as heck weren’t no Daenerys Targaryen. Them was the days. And this was what Daenerys looked like in the A Song of Ice and Fire bust series Valyrian Resin released, based solely on her description in the books.

IronThrone00

This is the first non-character collectible I’ve featured on here since I started my Project 365, unless you consider the Iron Throne to be a character itself. I kind of do, so maybe this post isn’t that much different from the others I’ve been making. In any case, this scaled-down replica of the titular throne from HBO’s Game of Thrones made its way into my collection this week, and I wanted to take some shots of it. It’s a really cool piece with great texturing and detail on all the fused swords. The base has the Game of Thrones logo on the back, which I sort of don’t like. I’m generally against any text or branding on statue bases, because it’s unnecessary and usually somewhat unsightly. This text is on the back, though, so it’s not visible when the throne is on display. In the final photo I took, I added in one of my vintage GI Joe guys to show the scale.

George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy series A Song of Ice and Fire begins its TV adaptation this weekend with the first episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones. As a longtime fan and evangelist of the book series, I’m naturally excited about the TV show after seeing what appears to be a staunch faithfulness to the original material. Advance reviews have started showing up online, and one in particular has stirred up a hornet’s nest today.
