AaylaSecura00

Every year the various toy companies present limited edition items as exclusive products for the San Diego Comic-Con. Back at SDCC 2008, Sideshow Collectibles’ exclusive Star Wars 1/6 scale piece was this 12″ Aayla Secura figure. Aayla was a great character pick for the exclusive, but the figure itself unfortunately is a pretty poor one. Her head is way out of proportion to the body, resulting in a giant noggin sitting atop a spindly torso. Adding to that, the fabric outfit is pretty cheaply made. Aayla’s tunic has loose threads hanging off it and is just generally flimsy. I was disappointed with this one, and hopefully they’ll revisit the character at some point in the future to make a better representation that isn’t so cheap looking and actually resembles the actress who played her.

SandorClegane00

I previously posted the Eddard and Daenerys busts from Valyrian Resin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. Here’s the standard version of Sandor Clegane, which comes without the trademark Hound helmet and with Sandor’s burned face exposed. I really like this line because, as I said before, it came out before the HBO Game of Thrones series, so the character designs are based on the book descriptions and not on the actor likenesses. The level of detail really is impressive on this one, from the intricate chainmail links to the blood and mud spattered on the armor.

Sinestro00

Longtime Green Lantern villain Sinestro is one of the baddies featured in the Blackest Night storyline and bust series. Instead of his traditional Yellow Lantern gear, here he’s wearing a White Lantern uniform. I still have a few more Blackest Night busts to go but am switching up tomorrow to take a brief break for some other collectibles before coming back to finish this line out.

Larfleeze00

Here’s another alien from the Blackest Night DC busts, Larfleeze. He’s probably my favorite of the third-string character sculpts in this series. They did a nice job on his fur details, and the paint job has a cool metallic orange finish. And just lookit the way he’s hugging his power battery! He lubs it! Or, well, covets it or something, but it’s still a great pose.

Firestorm00

I’m continuing my posting of Blackest Night busts from DC Direct with this Black Lantern Firestorm. One of the crazier elements of the Blackest Night storyline was the introduction of the Black Lantern Corps, which basically resurrected in zombified form tons of previously deceased DC heroes and villains. Firestorm was among the risen, and this mostly grayscale bust is his representation in the bust subset. Interestingly, they have yet to release a non-dead version of Firestorm in the line.

Atrocitus00

Continuing the posting of my DC Blackest Night bust collection from yesterday, this is Atrocitus, bearer of the Red Lantern ring and one of the new characters introduced in the Blackest Night storyline. This bust subset heavily featured the new aliens that joined the DC ranks with this story arc, so there aren’t many A-string heroes or villains among these releases. Focusing on a particular story gave DC Direct an opportunity to focus on some lesser known but more visually interesting characters that very likely wouldn’t have gotten collectibles like these otherwise.

Arkillo00

Having photographed and posted the vast majority of my standard DC bust collection already, I’m now moving into the Blackest Night subset. Blackest Night was one of the later Green Lantern storylines in DC Comics in the years just prior to the New 52 reboot. The arc introduced many new characters, most of them aliens, who bore colored rings complementary to the classic Green Lantern ring and Sinestro’s classic villainous Yellow Lantern ring. The first one up here is Arkillo, another Yellow Lantern bearer.

Galactus00

Galactus is one of the coolest pieces released by Eaglemoss in their Classic Marvel Figurine Collection. I hesitate to call him a miniature, because he’s significantly larger than the other figures in that line. I took a photo of him next to Rogue for a scale comparison. The larger sculpture size allowed them to put some great details into this one, and he’s a fantastic centerpiece for the collection.

Tiffany00

I never was much into the Spawn comic books, but I got into collecting the action figures in the mid- to late-’90s. The Spawn toys were sort of gateway collectibles that got me interested in buying stuff outside of Star Wars, which was (and still is) my main collectible fandom. This Tiffany was the second figure McFarlane Toys made of the character, and she came out in 2000 as part of the 17th series of Spawn figures. I still know nothing about the character, but I like the tribal design and accessories that came with her.

Carnage00

Following yesterday’s Lex Luthor post, here’s another miniature from Eaglemoss. This time it’s Carnage, part of the Classic Marvel Figurine Collection. I got Carnage when he first came out and took these photos way back in 2008. I haven’t posted them here yet, so I decided to use them to give myself an “off” day from photography.
